The method of using silane coupling agent mainly includes pretreatment method and integral blending method. ①Pretreatment method

The pretreatment approach entails initially conducting surface treatment of the inorganic fillers using a silane coupling agent and subsequently incorporating them into the polymer. Based on the distinct treatment modalities, it can be classified into dry processing and wet processing. In the dry treatment, the inorganic fillers are initially introduced into a high-speed mixer. Simultaneously during the stirring process, the pre-prepared solution of the silane coupling agent is gradually added and uniformly dispersed on the filler surface for processing. In the wet treatment, during the production of the fillers, either impregnation with the silane coupling agent treatment solution or addition of the silane coupling agent to the filler slurry is carried out, by drying. Regardless of whether it is dry or wet treatment, in order to ensure the uniform coating of the silane coupling agent on the surface of the inorganic fillers, great attention must be paid to the treatment procedures, with particular emphasis on the stirring and drying conditions.

②Integral blending method

In the case that pretreatment cannot be used, or the pretreatment method alone is not sufficient, the integral blending method can be used, that is, the silane coupling agent is mixed into the inorganic filler and the polymer. The advantage of this method is that the amount of coupling agent can be adjusted at will, and a step to complete the ingredients, so it is often used in industry. However, compared with the pretreatment method, in order to obtain the same modification effect, the integral blending method must use more silane coupling agent.

The amount of coupling agent

It is unnecessary to add silane coupling agent too much because the single molecular layer formed by very few coupling agents really plays the role of coupling in practice. The amount of silane coupling agent used depends on the type and surface area of the raw material.

When the filler area is uncertain, the amount of silane coupling agent can be determined as 1.0% of the filler amount. In addition, when the integral blending method is used, the dosage can also be selected as 1.0% of the polymer mass, and the appropriate amount can be increased or decreased to obtain the best dosage.
